Dear All,

as you might know in Italy now we are experiencing an economic and school
reform that is going to privatize universities and to cut the founds for the
research.
The government is about to reform the entire Italian education system,
practically dismantling the public education and therefore putting its
existence at stake.
Less economic funding and the bind to hire only one teacher for every five
who retire, along with the possibility given to University administrations
to turn themselves into private foundations, practically serve the public
education to the highest bidder, condemning an entire generation of
researchers and Ph.d.'s to lifelong precariety and future students to a
private education.
Other schools and high schools will also be severely affected by the reform,
with less laboratories, creation of a single teaching figure in primary
schools and the elimination of "full time" study, meaning no possibility of
leaving kids at school after the lunch break.
For these reasons not only is the whole school apparatus in Italy
protesting, but also the Italians abroad are joining in spontaneusly. A
number of demonstrations are taking place all over Europe, growing up from
Erasmus students and reaching everyone.

Here's a list of the demo that I am aware of; please forward this message to
everyone that might be interested, and join us in the protest. It is not
only an Italian issue, as the recent cuts to the welfare state all over
Europe show; it is a trend that we should all fight together!
