hallo dear MASNers......


conference's working are in progress and we are doing all our best for offer you another wonderfull event....
I would inform you of some importants news, and send again the call for paper, together with the application form for apply to the conference.

first of all I wish to inform you about a change in the program:
conference days are changed from 6-11 may to 4-9 may
we are very sorry for this because it can be a problem from whom already started to search for ticket, and also because we must change our 'traditional' ending of the conference in weekend days. so we aspect you on sunday the 4th and we will leave the hostel on friday the 9th.
again, really sorry for this, but it's not our fault: we had a fucking problem with the youth hostel, because they accepted our reservation in december, telling us to call them again after a couple of months for start to organize. ok when we phoned, we discover that the stupid man of the reception didn't tell nothing to the chief, that of course took  an other reservation for 30 people  on  friday 8th  and saturday 9th.....damm them!
in the last two weeks we tryed to find any other kind of solution, but  siena is a very turistic city and every other place is fucking expensive....
so we've decided for this solution

second I rememeber you the deadline for application, which is the 24th of february (next week). untill now we received only two applications, one for a paper and one for a workshop. please we really need more, because we must to apply for money offered my the ministry of culture and the deadline is the last working day of february. this call is for conferences and pubblications, but they ask a list of authors and an abstract of the topics. of course then we will change them according to those chosed by the international masn commitee, but it's really better to have at least something to present!

third, we want to propose you a little field work before the conference:
during the speaking with different assesors of the municipality of Siena (in search of  money), a common idea has born, that one of using the conference also as an important space of discussion with the municipality, trapassing the borders of our 'golden eden' for meet institutions and citizens in a usefull roudtable discussion.
the idea is to open a discussion (on monday afternoon after workshop and outside the conference) on the 'global city' as a space of integration between citizen and young students coming from other cities as well with  foreigners.
siena is a real special city because the traditional horses-run (the palio) that see different district of the city (contrade) fighting for the supremacy in it. today this fight is still really aggressive and feeled. it's really a question of identity, also for many youngsters. now many students from oher cities live in siena, but they are really not accepeted by most of the people of the contrade, 'cause they are feeled as foreigners, strangers, not from siena. in practice it is as if there are two cities in one. morover there is also a problem, as everywhere in italy and many other EU contries, of integration with foreigner migrant.
 this roundtable will offer a space of discussion on this topic and the idea is to open a dialogue between  citizens, someone who works in the city with migrant or other 'guests' (association, comitee and so on), the institutions (university and assessors) and anthropology. the role of MASN in this, except of course to present the conference and ourselves to the citizens, journalists and so on, will be that to present a little field work in urban anthropology.
the work will be done starting from some thesis of graduated students who spoke around these topics, also from other point of view: economical, sociological, political and so on. then we will make some interviews to student, citizens, foreigners and maybe to create a short documentary (if we have time), or just a paper.
we think that the best way for do it is to create a little (6-10 people) mixed team of research with masners from siena, masners from other italian cities, and masners from europe..
the field work probably will be done in march, during a week in which students from siena will guest the other components of the group.

everything is still in the beginning, so the ideas are not very clear, but we wish to hear your opinion and if someone is interested to join the team
